Websites like Digg are often touted as a masterful way to increase traffic to a blog site like this one. In reality, like pretty much everything else in life, these sites are in reality cliques and to get an article or post any exposure at all its down to who you know and not what you write. Let me explain...
Look around at the world and open your eyes. The world is full of mediocrity. Why is that? It's because the world works on the basis of who, not what, you know. You can have the greatest talent in the world, the best brains, be the best at your job but unless you brown nose the right people, you'll never gain the recognition that you deserve.
Thats why a boring stupid 'game' like golf is so successful - its not the game you see but an opportunity for weanies to get right up someones ass and give it a good old kiss. That's why golf games last so long - 4-6 hours of ass licking....hmmmm nice.
And so it is with these websites like Digg. You can post as many interesting, creative and brilliant articles that you want but unless you know the Digg 'in crowd' or have a whole army of Digg friends, your articles, posts and brilliant wit will languish around for a couple of hours and then fade away to a non existence. Meanwhile, some utterly stupid, inane tripe probably called '10 ways to make money with blogging' will have 2500 Diggs all because the person posting it has a nose drenched in other Digg clique members poop.
Ah - I hear you say, you are just annoyed because you have submitted stuff to Digg and it didn't get any Diggs... This is just sour grapes. Yes and No.
Yes - I have submitted stuff to Digg and seen it get a few Diggs and then fade away. But, I also puzzled as to why that was and what made a good and well Digged article so I did my research you see and I discovered that Digg, like everything else in life, is a club of Digg it cliques and you have to brown nose these geeks and build a network of Digg 'friends' in order to get noticed on Digg. I also discovered that the recommended types of submissions to make it on Digg have a format - usually the 'Top 10 ways...' I discovered that Digg - and sites like it - are not a meritocracy at all but a system to be rigged by cliques.
Every thing in life has a system and there are always people who learn to abuse the system for their benefit and the benefit of those who then naturally brown nose them and that is true with Digg and other such sites.
I'm sorry, I won't brown nose anyone - nope - never.
