Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad again showed just how out of touch he is with the world while speaking at the UN. Amongst his usual racist, anti-semitic, denial of historical facts and image-laced speech was the concept that the American Empire was about to end. Oh really? Someone ought to remind him that the Persian empire ended several thousand years ago.
I mean its not that I totally disagree with what he is trying to say it is simply the ridiculous way in which he says it.
What American Empire does he refer to? Last I looked there were very few territories outside of the US itself that were subject to direct US rule. Does he mean then the hundreds and thousands of MacDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants that are springing up across the globe? If so then he is VERY much wrong as the rest of the world's fascination with US culture and icons appears to be growing not weakening - even in Iran.
I suspect he was referring to the issues on Wall St. and the current financial crisis but it is difficult to tell in such a rhetoric laden speech.
Perhaps the US should reciprocate and nominate Ahmadinejad for an Oscar?
A man who denies historical facts like the holocaust probably has no real knowledge of the rest of history. The 1929 market collapse caused the US some problems for a while but it hardly signaled the end of US financial dominance in the World now did it?
I think it's all just wishful thinking on his part. It's what he hopes and schemes for. He plays to his audience of radicals and idiots and self deceived lepers while merely confirming what the rest of the globe has suspected for a long time. Iran led by such a man is dangerous not because Iranians are dangerous but because a government led by someone who is more self deceiving than Hitler is dangerous.
Interesting that the BBC World Service just ran a documentary talking to younger Iranians in Iran which discovered that this new generation want their rights and civil liberties... Ahmadinejad stands in their way... for now.
