The Clinton campaign has replaced it's campaign manager and dipped into the Clinton's personal savings to the tune of $10 million. All this after a clean sweep for Obama this last weekend and it now appears that Obama has the momentum in the Democratic race. The problem with Clinton is two-fold: First, a lot of people (me included) can't stand the woman and second, why would the USA want more of the same? In a previous post I likened the Bush-Clinton era as US royalty. But the USA isn't a royalty and it fought a war of independence to rid itself of an absolute monarchy. A Clinton victory would establish a lineage of rule by two powerful, elite families and who knows if that wouldn't be continued 4 or 8 years later by Jeb or some other Bush family member. It is time for a change in US politics. It is time for the US to change it's global image and it couldn't do better with President Obama.....
Clinton should withdraw from the race - she is out of money, out of ideas and out of steam.

Meanwhile, not many people I am sure will be following with equal gusto the Presidential election in the Czech Republic. Here, the President is elected by the parliament (House and Senate) and current President Vaclav Klaus is facing a challenge from an economist by the name of Jan Svejnar. The mechanics of how it works are quite complex though explained here for anyone interested. To my eyes, it's a process similar to electing a new pope and only lacks the white or black smoke.
Svejnar is well respected and actually lives in the US and is a US citizen though Czech by birth. He is giving Klaus a run for his money but the real story is the manner in which the election is being conducted. The average Czech citizen believes the process to be a comedy as the parliament spent almost 14 hours first debating whether the contest should be 'secret' or public. They finally decided on public but then neglected to let anyone know the result of the first ballot! Apparently, this slow motion version of democracy is normal here and it was similar political deadlock and party politics which led to the Slovaks deciding to go it alone and resulted in the splitting of the then Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic.
Democracy here has some way to go in terms of firing up the population. Most Czechs, while interested, are just totally bored by the process and consider most politicians corrupt and out of touch with reality - sound just like the US.
