When Violence Seems to Win

Seriousness for a moment.

It's hard not to want to comment today on the assassination in Pakistan so I will in a way. Violence, it seems, truly begets violence. We live in a world in which violence occurs frequently. Often this is done in the name of God but it's Man that resorts to violence; not God.

What violent acts and terrorism tell us volumes about is ourselves. God, in my understanding, gave us free will. The idea behind this, I believe, was for us to learn how to show restraint and how to deal with our problems without the use of violence. Every religion at some point decides it knows the will of God and that that will is to use violence. It is the men behind that religion and not God that are at fault here. In fact, it's all politics and religion is often usurped by politically motivated people simply to gain the dubious support of those that follow that religion.

This I do know. Violence and death never solved anything but aggravated it instead. I feel sorry today for Pakistan. It didn't just lose a potential leader but it lost itself in a senseless act of barbarism.
