The Ongoing Problems of an ExPat American
I think I have posted before that I have dual nationality - US and UK. I lived in the US for 15-years and I have an ex-wife and kids there. But being a US citizen overseas truly sucks......
With no physical US address I can't open a bank account there. The US being the arrogant and insular country that it is means that paying child support or even the blood suckers at the IRS requires either a check from a US bank, a US issued credit card or cash. Great eh! In an age of electronic banking, transnational business and the internet, unless I have a US bank account I can't pay up. If I don't pay the IRS will hunt me down where ever I am like some poor bloody seal. Jeez, the US treated Communists better than it does its own citizens.
Well the good news is I do have a bank account - with that global local bank HSBC. Everything was working fine until two months ago. I get paid in Europe, wire some money to my HSBC account and pay my bills. Then - they changed their procedures and now I am informed they won't accept my wires anymore because "they are suspicious" being routed via two banks... So now I am apparently a drug baron!
Let me tell you about HS Bloody C bank too. Try calling them about any problem - anything at all - wait in line on the phone until 2012 and then be told that you actually can't speak to anyone except the Customer Service operator. They then place you on hold for another half century before denying there is actually any problem at all. It took me 3 hours and 4 calls yesterday to finally get the bastards to tell me what my bank here already had told me - they wouldn't accept my money.... Pricks!
So - what now? Ideas on a Post Card please to the US Government who fuck their own citizens daily, at the meaningless white house on the hill occupied by idiots, Somewhere in the apparently the only country in the world aka USA
