I just got back from a quick business trip to Switzerland where the news continues to be on the Swiss soccer team FC Thun. Back in December 12 current and past players where arrested for having sex with a 15-year old girl. Apparently, this wasn't a one off event but repeated on a number of occasions. Since then, the news comes back periodically as individual players are tried and found guilty - this was the case this week when a second player was found guilty.

Not only is this disturbing news - underage sex on the part of almost an entire Division One soccer team - but the team's attitude is perplexing too. They basically have carried on as if nothing happened waiting for the outcome of each trial before acting. Thankfully, the team hasn't done so well is currently bottom of the league. The management says that the players are innocent until proven guilty - thats quite true - but the scale and depravity of the charges ought to have resulted in the club taking its own action in the form of an inquiry or something - wouldn't you think?

But, you know, these days sport comes first and sporting stars are beyond the normal application of laws that would work for you and I.
