Does Owning A BMW Make You Special?

What is it about owning a BMW (or Audi, or Benz) that apparently makes you think that the law doesn't apply to you? I haven't done true statistical analysis but it seems to me that whenever I am driving at the speed limit there is a BMW inches behind me attempting to push me to go faster and, at the earliest opportunity, whizzing by me to zoom on down the road like a rocket. Even if passing puts me, them and everyone else in danger?

I have owned several Benz myself and I know that you feel safe and it also feels that you are going slower than you are in such a car but come on....

It seems to me based on observation that many drivers of luxury German vehicles simple believe that they are beyond the law. Because they drive such a car, they are entitled to be the bully of the road, shoving everyone else out of the way rudely in there need for road dominance.

As an aside, the idea that owning such a car makes you beyond the law is quite wrong. My own experience suggests that owning such a car makes you THE target of the law. I recall driving my SLK through a school zone at 4:29pm (the zone expired at 4:30pm!) along with two mini vans. I was doing 32mph and was pulled over for speeding (yes folks - 1 minute of 20mph speed limit was left). On being approached by the officer I asked "Why did you pull me over? I was being passed by a minivan doing at least 45 mph when you stopped me." The officer replied "If you can afford this vehicle Sir, you can afford the fine." Lovely.

So German car driving road terrorists - Are you beyond the law?
